WHAT IS COACHING?

Coaching has many definitions. Today, the coaching title used in almost every area. However, apart from relationship coaching and team Coaching, the definition of Coaching is specific, and they all have one thing in common, which is guiding to change.

We call the coaching process on the path that the person will reach the desired point from his current situation.

Those who want to receive coaching service must have a "request" for change. Generally, there is a gap between a person's current reality and the desired future situation and this gap enables energy to appear in the person for a change. It is a kind of creative tension and if this is not the case, it is not possible to expect a change.

Coaching is a relationship that maximizes personal and professional potential in today's complex environments, inspires people to think more, and enter creative processes. Coaches believe that each client is unique, creative, resourceful, and whole.

The coach controls the process and keeps a mirror when it raises awareness of the client, discovers, clarifies, and adapts what he wants to achieve.

WHAT IS NOT?

Coaching takes its essence from positive psychology—especially the main subjects like personal values, virtues, and development issues. Understanding and defining the needs and benefits of the individual, turning them into goals, and trying to reach the goals for personal development is the basic framework of Coaching.

However, although it is perceived to be similar in many aspects, the coaching profession has many differences than Psychology, Psychiatry, Counseling, Instructor, Guidance and Mentoring. In other words, it is not Coaching, Psychotherapy, Counseling, Guidance, Mentoring.

For example, Psychotherapy focuses on resolving past nodes with the present and future. Coaching does not focus on the past. The degree of therapy varies, but it deals with dysfunctional processes. Coaching does not address clinical issues. While the Psychotherapy works with emotions related to the past, Coaching is about targeting and forward steps. Psychotherapy is about personal resolution and progress. Coaching is a performance focus.

Consultants are experts in a particular industry or line of business. The coach does not need to be an expert in the business area; the expertise of the coach is in communication, interpersonal relationships, emotions, and sharing. Both solve problems, set goals, and create a movement plan, but consulting services are focused on knowledge, whereas Coaching builds around relationships. Also, general answers are expected from consultants, whereas Coaches help people find their answers.

Consultants collect data, analyze, report, and make systematic, responsive suggestions. They rarely work on an individual basis in change processes. However, coaches work with individuals during and after the organizational change process.

If we look at the profession of mentoring; Mentoring builds a future based on the expertise of another, while Coaching focuses on a future based on one's own potential

Mentors can comfortably advise on strategies and regulations, whereas Coaches support people to find their answers.

Mentors exemplify and convey the standards, norms and values of their expertise/organization. Coaching is more about examining and developing one's values, vision, and standards.

In addition to Coaching and ethical standards, we believe in the duty and responsibility of informing the public about the "coaching profession," which takes its legitimacy from approved professional qualifications in our country.
